Isopodium News: Moulting

 



These are some pieces of moults from two different species of isopods. The smaller one above is from the back end of an Oreo Crumble (P. pruinosus) and the larger one above is the front end of a Chocolate Zebra (A. maculatum). Isopods moult their exoskeletons just like other crustaceans as they grow bigger. This is one of the reasons that their diets need protein and calcium boosts. Isopods moult in two parts, their back half and their front half. If their moults are left in the vivarium, they will get eaten!
