Decomposition Experiment: March Update

Here is the Squash/Pumpkin experiment update for March. This is decomposition at five months. There is a bit more mould in the large container with the delicata squash now and the little pumpkins have a thick coating of white mould over most of them and some of the soil too. There is also more moisture in the smaller container with the baby pumpkins too.

Last month we said that we were considering placing the containers in a warmer spot than where they are currently in our kitchen. We still have not moved them from our kitchen to a warmer or sunnier spot. I am not sure whether or not we will end up doing so as it is getting warmer in general and I predict that composition will soon speed up a bit more.

As a reminder: We'll leave these closed and untouched, watching & recording their decomposition every month until only seeds are left. Then we'll layer over them with a bit more dirt, close them back up, and watch & record their germination and growth until it's time to transplant them outside. I'll post an update at the beginning of each month if you feel like following along.
