Decomposition Experiment: April Update
Here is the Squash/Pumpkin experiment update for April. This is decomposition at six months. There is finally more mould in the large container with the delicata squash now and the little pumpkins still have a thick coating of white mould over most of them, some of the soi, and part of the orange pumpkin skin can be seen wrinkling and collapsing near the soil. There is also more moisture in both containers too.
As a reminder: We'll leave these closed and untouched, watching & recording their decomposition every month until only seeds are left. Then we'll layer over them with a bit more dirt, close them back up, and watch & record their germination and growth until it's time to transplant them outside. I'll post an update at the beginning of each month if you feel like following along.
