Isopodium News: NEW ISOPODS!

The weather was right and the time was right for us to go on an isopod hunt in our compost pile. We found A LOT of little babies which was really cool. We ended up with two or three different species, which we have not identified just yet. But, we are certain that the ones pictured here are Armadillidiums of some kind, possibly two different types since the big ones are a deep grey colour and the smaller ones are a mottled or brindled brown, cream, and grey. However, some isopods have young that look little to nothing like adults while others just look like tiny versions of the adults.

These are most of the isopods we collected from the compost pile. There are a few more not pictured or caught on film that we also caught. We will start trying to identify these once there are a few more and they are more acclimated to their vivarium.
Here is a little video of one of my new isobabes crawling around in their new home. Those are pieces of crushed quail eggshells in the corner and a piece of cholla wood. I helped my mum set up a vivarium for the new isobabes and moved them all in together. Typically, it is best to keep different species separate, but since we found them together and there are not hundreds of them, we figured it would be okay to keep them together for now and then split them up at a later time.
