Isopodium News: Squashy Treat

We were making a butternut squash soup and decided to treat our isobabes and springtails to some raw squash. They LOVED it!

So many of my Zebras are growing up! They seemed to really like and appreciate having this squash treat. You can see some brown mould in their vivarium; it is from a couple meal worms that they did not eat and we forgot to remove. After these pictures were taken, we took out the bits of mouldy food and moss. Most moulds are not dangerous for isopods and the springtails will eat most of it, but we try to keep the level of mould pretty low since my mum is allergic to mould. If you look closely, on the left side of the squash, you can see a few small white blurs; those are some springtails having a snack too!

Here is a closeup of some juvenile Zebras hanging out on a dried magnolia leaf, not too far from a big mama Zebra.

My Dairy Cows went wild for their squash! They all started running over to inspect what we had placed into their vivarium. You can also see the husk remains from a golden berry/cape gooseberry that we previously gave them.

Here is a closeup of the Cows going to town on their squash!

This picture shows our wild-caught isobabes who all seemed to really like their squash too. We figured that they were pretty familiar with squash since, except for the babies, they have all had some before out in our compost heap (where these were caught).
