I Can Read!

I signed up for my library's Summer reading program to see how many books I could read this Summer and not only did I basically read at least one book every day, but I have kept reading since AND I learned how to read!
While I can read a lot, I still have trouble with some words, especially long ones. I am now working on learning how to spell better. I think because I have kind of skipped over this thing called phonics, according to my mum, that is why I am having some unique challenges. But I am proud of myself for figuring out this reading thing!
My dad has been tracking my reading in an app linked to my library called Beanstack since we signed up for the reading challenge and I want to share some stats with you now:
Number of pages read: 7199
Number of books read: 170
Number of reading sessions: 196

On October 28th, 2022 I got an award badge in Beanstack for reading 120 Days in a row! |
Besides reading books with my parents every night, I also have been using an app called Duo ABC, which has helped me learn how to recognise and spell words really well. There are short stories in the app and lots of cute little characters. I am about to complete Level 6, which is 1st-grade level reading. Duo ABC is made by Duolingo, the app my mum is learning Hebrew with; the company is here in Pittsburgh and I plan to visit it someday soon!
And if this was not enough exciting news for you, my parents and I are almost halfway done getting a stamp from all of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh library branches that are participating in the CLP Passport Challenge! Once we have visited all of the libraries, getting a stamp on my passport at each one, I can get my very own t-shirt! I really like that the librarians all let me stamp my own passport!
So far, we have been to the following library branches:
- Homewood
- Hazelwood (Hey, that's my name!)
- Squirrel Hill
- Carrick
- Main/Oakland
- Allegheny
- Woods Run (This is our home library, right at the end of our street!)
- Brookline
- East Liberty
- Knoxville
- Beechview
- LAMP (Library of Accessible Media for Pennsylvanians)
- South Side
- Lawrenceville
- Hill District
- Mt. Washington
- Downtown
- West End
I will be sure to post a picture of me in my shirt later this coming Spring when we finish filling up my passport with stamps!
